Abstract

An increase in the number of patients with functional disorders of the stomatognathic system, changeable clinical picture of the disturbance and intensification of symptoms frequency observed in recent decades, call for urgent improvement of therapeutic methods used so far.

The aim of the paper is discussion of structure of palatal relaxative – repositional plates applied in the early period of treatment of some forms of the stomatognathic system dysfunctions.

Principles of structure of the palatal relaxative – repositional plates with functional modifications based on the analysis of functional x-ray pictures of temporomandibular joints – in occlusion and abduction of dental arches – have been presented. In the further part of the paper, the analysis of therapeutic procedures used in 78 patients has been carried out on the basis of medical documentation. It was on that basis that clinical implications for the presented modifications have been described.

Functional anatomy of the stomatognathic system should form a basic parameter of structure of palatal relaxative – repositional plates applied in the early treatment of the stomatognathic system dysfunctions. The use of the palatal relaxative – repositional plates is a preliminary stage of therapeutic process in the stomatognathic system dysfunctions. It may have a character of an independent procedure or be an important supplement of multi-stage or surgical treatment.
