Abstract

A modern view on vitamin D appreciates many roles for vitamin D outside its core competence related with regulation of the musculoskeletal system. In consequence vitamin D deficiency may be implicated in numerous disease conditions. Substantial evidences suggests that a large portion of the population have suboptimal levels of this vitamin, and this may adversely affect the cardiovascular (CV) system. Randomized controlled trials are necessary to determine whether routine vitamin D supplementation will improve CV outcomes.
