Abstract

The main objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of arrhythmias and conduction disorders in the resting ECG in young sportsmen and young people not practising sport. We examined records of 12-lead ECG of 37 patients aged 14-19 years (mean 16 years, SD = 1.7 years) from the sports’ outpatient clinic (group B) and 30 adolescents aged 14-19 years (mean 16.6 years; SD = 1.5 years) who did not practised sport (control group C). There was higher rate of sinus bradycardia, sinus irregularity, incomplete right bundle branch block and first degree atrioventricular block in the ECG than in young sportsmen than in young people not practising sport.
