Abstract

267 patients aged 1 till 17 years with post traumatic injuries of primary and permanent dentition where treated in the Paediatric Dentistry Department of Medical University of Gdansk during the years 1992-2003. The analyzed population was obtained in a retrospective study and not in an epidemiological research. That is why we can not consider frequency of injuries in this population. Children and adolescents with mild injuries do not report to any dental surgery and some of them are treated in different private dental practices. Post traumatic injuries of teeth were classified according to the Ellis classification. Most of the injuries were observed in 9-10 year-old children, and the boys were treated twice as frequent as the girls. Multiple injuries were more common (52,81%) then simple teeth trauma (47,19%). In permanent dentition enamel and dentin fractures were observed in 40,62% and luxation in 18,97%. Most individuals were injured during play time (35,96%) especially cycling (15,36%) and at school 23,97%. Only 20,22% of injuries were noticed at home.
