Abstract

In this study an analysis of the contribution of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) and thrombomodulin (Thm) in pathogenesis of strokes in children was evaluated.
Sixty children were included in the study: 30 children (14 girls and 16 boys, mean age: 10.7 ± 4.3 years) after ischemic stroke of unknown etiology and 30 healthy children (14 girls and 16 boys, mean age: 11.5 ± 3.5 years).
The statistical analysis showed the increased values of anticardiolipin antibodies (aCL) and thrombomodulin (Thm) in children with stroke than in control group. The obtained values were higher, but state at normal level.
Our results higher mean values of aCL and Thm in children with stroke in comparison with the control group- which suggests that aCL and Thm may be important factors in the occurrence ischemic stroke in children still. Further studies are needed.
