The aim of the study was to describe determinants and correlates of appearance and intensity of anxiety and depression of patients after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The influence of gender, age, education, inhabitancy, family status was analyzed. The study involved 30 consecutive patients: 9 women and 21 men after CABG treated in Spa. Intensity of anxiety state and anxiety trait was evaluated by Spielberger questionnaire (STAI: X-1, X-2). Index of depression was assessed by Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-Long Form). Intensity of depression and anxiety (trait) was correlated with gender of subjects (p=0.03, p=0.002, respectively) and was greater in case of women. In participants with higher anxiety – trait scores higher depression intensity was also found. The mean depression was higher in city population. Subjects from villages responded stronger anxiety on their health problems. Education has not determinate intensity of anxiety (state) and depression (p>0.05). People who are not single present less index of depression (p<0.05).
