Częstość izolowania bakterii mikroaerofilnych z ziarniniaków okołowierzchołkowych zębów
Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of microaerophilic bacteria occurrence in dental periapical granulomas and determination of the most frequently isolated genera and species of microorganisms.
70 teeth, extracted together with periapical granulomas, were the subject of examination. After sampling, the granuloma were straightaway placed in a sterile vial containing a transporting medium prepared accordingly to the PRAS method and delivered to the laboratory within one hour. The direct Gram stained preparation as well as inoculation onto an agar medium were performed. For cultivation of microaerophilic bacteria the material was inoculated onto Columbia and Brucella agar supplemented with 5% sheep blood and Tripticase Soy-Bacitracin-Vancomycin (TBSV) agar (selective medium for Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans). The incubation was conducted in an anaerobic jar with Campy Pak (BBL), at 37 oC for 4 – 5 days.
The presence of 1 to 3 microaerophilic bacteria strains was demonstrated in 48 (68.6%) of 70 samples. Altogether 66 strains of these bacteria were detected. Gram-negative rods of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans species were selected from 19 samples, the Capnocytophaga genus was found in 17 materials and the Campylobacter genus was isolated in 12 cases. In 12 materials microorganisms of Eikenella corrodens species and in 6 cases Gram-positive rods of Rothia dentocariosa species were detected.
Microaerophilic bacteria were found in 48 (68.6%) dental periapical granulomas. Most frequently Gram-negative rods of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans species and of the Capnocytophaga genus were isolated.
