Wpływ metody „zamkniętego wyrzynania” na tkanki przyzębia niewyrzniętych lub zatrzymanych zębów po leczeniu chirurgiczno-ortodontycznym
Abstract
Surgical-orthodontic treatment of unerupted or impacted teeth consists in their forced orthodontic eruption following surgical exposure.
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the results of the periodontal status unerupted or impacted teeth incisors and canines with the use of closed eruption surgical technique. Combined surgical-orthodontic tratment was performed between 1999-2002, initially at the Dental Surgery Outpatient Department and the Department of Orthodontics of the Public Clinical Hospital No 1 and then at the Dental Specialist Centre of the Medical University of Gdańsk.
The study involved 58 patients, 34 females and 24 males, aged 12-35 years. A total of 72 maxillary teeth, 26 incisors and 24 canines were trated. The foollow-up study examination which was performed no sooner than 12 months post retention involved clinical investigation. The control teeth group compresed contralateral spontaneously erupted teeth of the same patient. The factors affecting the periodontal status of teeth after surgical-orthodontic treatment. There was no statistically significant difference considering gingival status, oral hygiene, gingival probing depth or teeth mobility between the orthodontically aligned teeth and the control group. The clinical examination showed that the use of closed eruption technique resulted in acceptable satisfactory state the periodontal status unerupted or impacted teeteh after surgical-orthodontic treatment. In the cases of a deep and indirect retention, increased mobility of aligned teeth resulted from the removal of bone tissue during surgical exposure of unerupted or impacted teeth and therefore the loss of their bone support.
The analysis of treatment results shows that the periodontal status of aligned teeth, that were treated with the use of close eruption technique, remains satisfactory.
