Abstract

5’-nucleotidases (EC 3.1.3.6) dephosphorylate non-cyclic nucleoside monophosphates to nucleosides and inorganic phosphate. Seven human 5’-nucleotidases isoforms with different subcellular localization have been described so far.

AMP deaminase (EC 3.5.4.6) catalyzes deamination of AMP to IMP and exists in various molecular forms in mammalian tissues.

The isoform of 5’-nucleotidase and AMP deaminase present in the human placenta manifest similar regulatory profiles. This suggests they coordinate control in the regulation of ATP degradation in the human placenta.
