Abstract

Bone anchored BAHA hearing aids use bone conduction for transmission of the acoustic signal to the inner ear. This method can be used in patients with hearing loss, in whom a traditional hearing aid using air conduction could not be applied. The authors presented a method of simultaneous implantation of BAHA system in children with conductive hearing loss. Clinical and audiological criteria of inclusion for BAHA were discussed. The advantages of hearing aids using bone conduction were presented. BAHA system in children allows hearing loss to be reduced by 20–25 dB and improves speech understanding. BAHA is a very effective and safe method of treatment in children with hearing impairment.
