Abstract

Nowadays along with the development and progress the number of people who are taking up higher education is increasing. According to the data from 2008, which were published by the Central Office of Statistics, 1937,4 thousand people were students in Poland presently. A big part of these people leave their home places in order to start studying in other cities.

It is concluded that the selected problems of students from the Faculty of Health Sciences which are concerned with taking up higher education beyond their home places were analysed. These problems involve personal difficulties and keeping single-handed households.

Moreover, deficiencies of aid units responsible for helping students in personal, material, cognitive, organizational and adaptation spheres were discovered.

In this way, this study discovers not only problems among students who are studying Nursing in Medical University of Gdańsk, but also directions for the solution to these problems.

It is extremely important for the quality of this study, because it brings ready-made ways of coping with the mentioned problems in the from of proposals for creating specialized aid units.
